When designing the Night Rail, we wanted to design a handguard that was easy to install, but also to be able to mount with a full 360 degrees of contact. Our new patent pending, two piece barrel nut is one of a kind. We developed it from the ground up and the machining time it takes to make the barrel nut, rivals the time making the actual rail. That’s not to say the rail is simple to make. One look and you’ll see that we really took time with this in design and development. What we ended up with is a rail that not only looks amazing, but is still true to our lightweight brand. The barrel nut/mounting system keeps the rail performing even during the harshest of conditions. Being one of the leaders in the industry of rail innovation and design, it’s always a challenge to innovate new products that function well, but look great also. We’re up for the challenge with the next chapter of our product line – the Night Series. I think you’ll agree that we hit a home run with the Night Rail. I have to admit, I bought this handguard because I thought it was the coolest looking handguard I’d ever seen. The four mini rails out at the barrel end look like a claw coming at you. The design is unique as far as their barrel nut and the nut that holds the handguard on. There are no screws. The inside nut tightens outward onto the barrel nut and the inside of the handguard has small groves inside that the nut grips to. Only time will tell if the design is going to hold up to stress and wear and tear. I have my suspicion that not having any bolts holding it in place that it will eventually rotate on the nut, but we’ll leave that as speculation for now. Very very light, even in the 16 inch version. I bought it to run on a 16 inch barrel, looking back I may have gone with the 14 inch rail because if I mount my tac light out at the end on one of the four picatinny rails, it’s going to get blasted from my muzzle brake. All in all, very satisfied. Time will tell whether the design is tough enough to hold up. And remember, as long as it looks cool, that’s all that matters. Right?

If you're looking for pure functionality, this rail might have too much style for your tastes. But, if you're looking for an elegant free-float handguard that's light weight, has a continuous upper rail, and convenient built-in QD connectors for slings, this is a great choice. The anodized finish is great; there's no machining imperfections, and there's no excessively sharp edges/corners. The m-lok slots are flat on the inside, providing excellent points to secure m-lok compatible devices. Installation is several steps, but not very complicated. The barrel nut is atypical, but not ridiculous; and it functions well while still being stylized.

…because this rail is sick! Extremely light weight and great looking. The finish is great and matches my Cobalt Kinetics receiver perfectly. Love it on my new build with a pencil barrel. Rifle weight and balance is phenomenal.

Top notch floating rail with innovative mounting system. Optics planet has the best price and they had fast shipping. This is the second night rail I’ve bought looks awesome on my ar’s! Don’t be intimidated by the locking system follow the directions and you’ll be fine.

Great handguard. Was a little spectacle of the barrel nut and handguard attachment but it is as tight as any handguard I have. The installation was easy. It was a tight fit with my SLR adjustable gas block but it went on. Make sure to keep the barrel nut wrench that come with it tight against the treads.

After reading some of the issues people were having with the rail becoming loose, I was a little apprehensive to buy it. I'm now fairly convinced that it was poor installation. This is by far one of the easier rails to install, somewhere between a regular milspec nut and the ones you have to time perfectly using shims.First, quality is very good. Didn't find any issues with machining. Second, although looks are subjective, I do like the way it looks. Very aggressive with the flares at the muzzle. Third, like I said before, installation was fairly straight forward. I do recommend you watch the videos that Fortis has out about installation. The hardest thing to use is their proprietary wrench, which is uni-directional (so when you're stretching the threads on the upper receiver, you literally have to switch it 6-7 times from side to side). To get it timed for my barrel/extension, I went up to about 55 ft-lb torque. In the video they use a breaker bar so you don't really know what they go up to, but it certainly is above the 45 ft-lb that they recommend at a minimum. There is absolutely no play whatsoever of the handguard, and it feels solid. I do like the integrated rails at the front, since I typically bench shoot, it saves me from having to buy a 3-4 slot adapter. It does have integrated QD points although I haven't used them (nor do I plan to since I have a single point attachment to my stock).Overall, great rail. If there's anything that I would do differently, I would have more sizes too (12, 14 and 16 are fairly long, and they pretty much exclude all SBRs). Very happy with my purchase, and if you're on the fence about this rail from the other reviews, don't be.
