This gas tube was super simple to install. Just look up a YouTube video if your not familiar with the ak/akm stile of weapon. All in all took about 5-10 mins. Make sure to use the supplied thread locker.

Fit like a glove and works fantastic! Holds zero, doesn't heat up too bad, nice and snug. Additionally, optics planet discounts and fast/free shipping makes this a no-brainer. Do yourself a favor, if you have an NPAP/M70/OPAP get this rail.

I was looking for an ultimak and stumped onto the Midwest and decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. Once you tweak the rear with the Allen screws and snug the big bolt and sinch that with the Allen screws it becomes Rock solid with no need to fasten around the barrel. I'm loving it so far.

I have had probably every kind of railed AK gas tubes on my AKM’s. Troy is good but pricy, Ultimak being the most common and hard to find. This one performs as good as my ultimak at less cost and more Availability. It co-witnesses in the lower third of my micro red dot, the installation is so easy a Slav could do it. If you play hard with your AK the heat on this gas tube will fry a budget optic, you can expect to see from the other tubes like this. Its the optic not the rail that is the point of failure.

The first thing I noticed about the MI gas tube rail, versus the Ultimak, is that there is significantly less picatinny slots. The mounting mechanism itself is fine, although personally I find the barrel band mount of the Ultimak to just be better. The majority of the pressure on the MI rail is situated against the screw down end, not the set screws that rest on the barrel, that also level it out. The major turn-off for me (aside from the shorter rail space) is that there is no continuity to the hardguard like the Ultimak offers. The Ultimak looks and feels like it was always there. The MI rail leaves a big gap between the gas tube rail and the handguard. With these two shortcomings in mind, there's really no reason to buy this over an Ultimak, assuming the AK you own is among the overwhelming bunch that will accept an Ultimak.
