The handguard is nice but I'm giving it 4 stars only because it doesn't quite match the magpul FDE for my Aero upper and lower. Mine also didn't come with a barrel nut, the box was also cut open upon arrival, I think someone from Optics planet is stealing product? I don't know. Just be aware, I'll have to send it back. The handguard itself looks very nice though.

I purchased the RISE Armament AR-15 M-LOK Handguard because I was looking for a lightweight, 4-sided M-LOK slots, and most importantly, FDE handguard to replace my boring, basic handguard on my AR. It came with a barrel nut, barrel nut wrench, and mounting hardware to install on my upper. The handguard itself has a matte FDE finish that looks clean and well done. Installing the rail to my upper was fairly simple and didn't take much time at all. Although I do not have many rounds through my AR with this handguard installed, it remained solid and sturdy throughout my most recent trip to the range. My M-LOK hand stop did leave scratches on the finish of the inside of the rail due to the M-LOK mounting tabs. Overall, I am happy with the handguard as it has accomplished everything I was hoping it would without breaking the bank.I would recommend this handguard to anyone who is looking for a lightweight, 4-sided M-LOK handguard that has multiple color options and doesn't want to be eating Ramen Noodle's for the next two weeks.

this is the third rise ra-905 handguard that i have bought. the others were the 13.5" version. the 13.5" version has been vastly improved since this 10" model was made. ok.. the 10" that i just got does not have the reinforcing raised portions near the receiver/bolt end that is present on the longer versions. here is the worst part of the 10" version. there is no relief cut by the receiver pivot pin. so if the rail is against the upper receiver, then you cannot put the upper on the lower because of an interference fit with the pivot pins. i tried this on 5 different lowers, several brands, no way could it work. i am a retired machinist. luckily i had the longer version on hand to see what changes were made in design to make the longer ones work. i machined the handguard by the back edge near the pivot pin location, to closely match my other rise handguards. that cured the mounting problem. BUT it was not the only problem. no matter how tight i tightened the mounting screws the handguard was loose and would move up and down A_LOT! the slot that the barrel nut anchor goes in was cut on a taper. there was no easy way to fix that. i removed the wedge and tightened the screws until the handguard was tightly mounted and the measured the width of the slot from front to back that the anchor wedge goes in. the wedge was about .165" but to make the rail work the wedge had to be ground at a taper from .150" in the front to .133" at the rear. that cured the mounting problems. i darkened the machined surfaces with alumi-black. your average homeowner would be hard pressed to make these mods, or even to bother to repair. i really like these handguards so i went to all the trouble to repair this one. even if i had sent it back i am sure i would have gotten the same bad part. these are all old stock. i bet that rise is making repairs to the design at this time. so there is no way i can recommend this 10" version in it's current configuration.

I picked this handguard because the profile/style was a good match to my BDRx receiver set. I did have to remove the anti-rotation tabs as they didn't fit on the upper receiver, but the BDRx isn't mil-spec so I imagine a mil-spec upper would work just fine. The handguard is light (I got the 10" version) and the attachment is solid, even without the anti-rotation tabs this thing won't rotate. My M-lok accessories fit with no issues and there's enough clearance for my gas block.I removed a star because the finish had a few defects; a couple of small nicks and machining imperfections. Nothing that would prevent the handguard from functioning but I thought it was worth noting.I did have to contact RISE for the barrel nut torque (60-80 lb-ft) as it wasn't noted anywhere and their install video only tells the torque for the 3 clamping screws.

13.5 handguard on a sharp bros hellbreaker lower and spikes tactical billet upper . Ve built plenty of high end ar15s well over $3800 this was goin to go on my newest build $4800 total build once done . ONLY REASON I ORDERED THIS HANDGUARD was because the fluting on the handguard where the barrel nut is matched thr fluting in my upper receiver n thats it . I got itntoday went to install it . Barrel nut was on tight no problem went to install the handguard the anti rotation tabs were not snug and i can see why they pit anti rotation tabs on this handguard because the locking mechanism sucks . You can not get the screws in tight enough to make this thing snug and tight to where it doesnt still move side to side . I tried to tighten them screws so tight it even stripped 2 out of the 3 screws and still not tight enough to hold in place without shaking . I never write reviews but i shoulda listened to the other reviews . STAY AWAY DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME BUYING IT THINKING YOUR GUNA BE THE LUCKY GUY THAT HAS NO PROBLEMS . Because that was me ignored the reviews n thought maybe they fixed the issues …. NOPE not at all . Will be returning handguard today
